Development of a system to obtain vertical track geometry measuring axle-box accelerations from in- service trains

چکیده
Nowadays, metropolitan railway systems are in great demand, so they offer highfrequency services for the most part of the day. Therefore there are only a few hours during night available to carry out maintenance tasks. This research develops a system that records the vertical accelerations undergone by the bogies of in-service railway vehicles. As accelerations are measured during regular services of trains, no additional vehicles or personnel are needed and maintenance planning is optimized. Accelerations are processed to obtain the vertical track alignment in order to determine whether the track needs to be repaired. The developed system has been validated by comparing its results to the actual state of the track provided by a track monitoring trolley. Comparison is made both by graphical and statistical methods. Real data come from measurements taken on Line 1 of the Alicante tram network (Spain). This paper presents the data collecting procedure, the mathematical processing of the accelerations and the analysis of the track condition.

There are several factors causing fastening systems to deteriorate faster than the designed life. The high repetitive loads from a moving train being one of the main factors, track irregularities, design and installation defects of track components, non-uniform rail support stiffness, unevenness in the rail seat deterioration are some of the factors causing fastenings systems to deteriorate fas...
متن کاملEffect of Rail Corrugation on the Amount of Train Induced Vibrations near a Historical Building
The evaluation and control of the trains induced vibrations needs even more attention in the case of underground tracks which passes near to monuments and historical sites. The rail corrugations which occur due to the wheels’ impulse loads during the operation period of underground railway tracks, usually amplify the ground borne noise and vibration. In the current study, the mentioned phenomen...

High speed trains are an indispensable part of rapid transportation systems in many countries. As the fastest means of transport on the ground, these trains are extremely sensitive to the terrain and track conditions. Geometrical irregularities and mechanical characteristics of the track, together with inconsistencies in the lane (including bridges that support the track) are considered importa...
